Loveland-Carter Lake-Masonville Loop

Terms of Use/Disclaimer
Distance: 49.0 mi
Route Summary
This loop is a decent tour of some foothill reservoirs located just west of Loveland and Fort Collins. The first 19 miles takes you through rolling terrain transitioning from town, to residential areas, and ultimately into rural lands south of Loveland. From that point on, things get hilly.

The route takes you up onto the dam-road above Carter Lake, up and around and Green Ridge Glade Reservoir, through Masonville, and finally around the south end of Horsetooth Reservoir. Highlights include views of the lakes and surrounding foothills, as well as views looking down onto the towns of Loveland, Fort Collins, and the edge of the eastern plains.

Virtually the entire route through town and residential areas has bike lanes and wide road shoulders. About half of the roads through the rural areas have no bike lanes and narrow road shoulders, but these roads are very popular with local cyclists, and most drivers are used to sharing the road. This is a good route for adding some hill-climbing to your 45+ mile rides.
